Passage to Cinema

La Alliance Française Puerto Rico y su Festival de Cine Europeo de Puerto Rico se complacen en anunciar la creación de Cine Pasaje, nuestro nuevo ciclo de películas europeas a proyectarse en las universidades de Puerto Rico. Promovido en los meses paralelos a la celebración del 13ro FCEPR (entre octubre y diciembre de 2022), Cine Pasaje facilita la programación gratuita de una selección de películas europeas en centros universitarios como experiencia de viaje, reflexión y formación.

Cine Pasaje desea fomentar el intercambio cultural, el aprendizaje y el descubrimiento de un cine internacional entre estudiantes y públicos universitarios del país. Este proyecto es definido también por el deseo de promover el acceso a la cultura a los jóvenes y de conectar la perspectiva artística con la educación universitaria.

Con una variada selección de películas europeas, disponibles en sus versiones originales con subtítulos en español e inglés, Cine Pasaje ofrece la posibilidad de promover debates y aproximaciones interdisciplinarias acerca de los diferentes asuntos asociados con cada película, abordando temas como la historia, la ética, la justicia social o la sostenibilidad, entre muchos otros. Estas proyecciones también sirven como una oportunidad para los estudiantes de idiomas extranjeros poder profundizar sus conocimientos de manera lúdica.

The Alliance Française Puerto Rico and its Puerto Rico European Film Festival are excited to announce the creation of Cine Pasaje—Passage to Cinema—our new cycle of European movies curated especially for Puerto Rican universities. Between October and December 2022, Cine Pasaje will offer participating institutions a free selection of European films in order to provide students with an experience of travel, reflection, and learning.

Cine Pasaje aspires to promote cultural exchange, education, and international cinema among university audiences on the island. Moreover, this project is driven by the aim to provide young individuals with a new access to culture and to connect artistic thinking with higher education.

With its well curated selection of European films—available in their original versions with Spanish and English subtitles—Cine Pasaje will facilitate intellectual exchange about and interdisciplinary analysis of each film’s particular issues, including history, ethics, social justice, and sustainability. These screenings will also allow foreign language students to deepen their knowledge in a more relaxed and enjoyable manner.

CÓMO PARTICIPAR EN CINE PASAJE

How do you participate in Passage to Cinema

Por primera vez, Cine Pasaje promueve proyecciones gratuitas de cine europeo en las universidades de Puerto Rico. Las universidades participantes podrán escoger entre nuestra selección disponible las películas que mejor se vinculan con sus programas educativos. Cada centro será encargado de organizar las presentaciones en sus instalaciones, contando siempre con el equipo audiovisual necesario para poder proyectar las películas en los formatos disponibles.

Todo profesor o administrador universitario que desee participar en Cine Pasaje 2022, debe enviar un correo a [email protected]. Nuestro personal responderá dentro de una semana.

For the first time, Cine Pasaje will offer free screenings of European films in universities in Puerto Rico. Participating institutions may choose the films from our collection that can best complement their educational programs. Each university will be responsible for organizing the screenings in its facilities—notably, the required audiovisual equipment needed to present the films in the formats available.

As a dairy farmer in his thirties, Pierre’s life revolves around his veterinarian sister, his parents, and their farm that he has taken over. Just as the first indications of an epidemic are announced in France, Pierre discovers that one of his cows is infected. He refuses to accept the possibility of losing his cows. They are all that he has, and he will fight to the bitter end to save them.

Nour has just been hired as a labor nurse at the chemical factory where her father, a union delegate and long-time company leader, works. While the factory undergoes a health inspection, a young journalist investigates waste management. The two women gradually discover that this factory, a pillar of the local economy, hides many dark secrets. Between lies about polluting discharges, doctor’s records, and hidden accidents, Nour will have to choose between keeping silent or betraying her father and bringing the truth to light.

Al igual que en las universidades, Cine Pasaje presentará películas europeas para un público joven universitario durante la programación pública del Festival de Cine Europeo de Puerto Rico en las salas de Fine Arts Miramar. Información adicional sobre las películas y entradas gratuitas se publicará en octubre junto con la cartelera general del 13ro FCEPR.

Proyecciones adicionales durante la Cine Gira
Es posible que se realicen proyecciones adicionales de Cine Pasaje como parte de nuestra Cine Gira, un programa que da continuidad al FCEPR llevando películas gratuitas a diferentes comunidades en todo Puerto Rico. La próxima Cine Gira comenzará a mediados de noviembre de 2022. Se publicarán más detalles sobre este programa durante este otoño.

Following initial university screenings, movies for a student audience will be presented during the Festival’s public programming at Fine Arts Miramar. Information on the films and tickets for the free screening will be published, along with the Festival’s official film selections, mid-October 2022. Stay tuned!

Additional Screenings
Cine Pasaje (Passage to Film) screenings will be tentatively offered in conjunction with the Festival’s Cine Gira (Film Tour) program, which presents free screenings to communities around Puerto Rico. The next Cine Gira will begin in mid-November 2022. Further details will be published this fall.
